Day 1
David Rodriguez
HE
WEEK opened with elegance and retro charm displayed artfully
through David Rodriguez’s new spring 2004 collection. The former
assistant to Richard Tyler, Rodriguez is forging his own name and
style and the delight of women everywhere. He brings grace and sophistication
through his clothes, and inspires his clients to be savvy and charming.
Creams and whites with contrasting black were the colours of the
collection, adding an old Havana spice to the Parisian beatnik of
today. Tailored suits and jaunty hats made me want to shout, ‘Play
it again, Sam,’ though, thankfully, I was more reserved than that.
Rodriguez went for a softer look away from the
sea of miniskirts still prevailing from last season. He opted for
a more pretty, feminine knee-length skirt in pencil and A-line shapes.
A favourite was a cream colour, tweed jacket with an ivory tweed
flounce skirt. His pieces could work for the ever-needed day-evening
girl, who doesn’t have time to go home and change.
Let’s not forget that this is spring, and for
lack of miniskirts we had an abundance in hot pants, paired with
sweet little tie front top. Rodriguez, though brilliant with his
day wear, became absolutely amazing when presenting his evening
attire. The pièce de résistance was a white
silk front flounce gown. Flowing like a feather in the air, with
an angelic aura, this gown was the envy for any princess or princess
at heart.
