The colour of California

On the eve of the next Los Angeles Fashion Week, Catherine Rigod reports on the best of fall 2004

Photographed by David Lee/www.davidleearts.com

Monah Li
Bright vivid imagery, this beautiful and bold array of colour shocked and awed an early morning audience. With bright organzas, loud eye-make-up and black thick piping, Monah Li took a tropical twist to an old Hollywood glamour gown. The ’30s were back, but in Technicolor! This was one of the most visually stimulating and breathtaking shows of the week. I was amazed and the textures and felt any Hollywood industry stylist should jump on these wears to add accents to their films. Europe would adore this collection.

Sue Wong
Sue Wong should be in New York or even Paris displaying her masterful craftsmanship. Her tailored and composed aphrodites were exquisite. She took Old Hollywood, mixed with an art-déco appeal. This was my absolute most preferred show of the week. It was awe-inspriring and visually stimulating. I was amazed by the care and beauty of every garment that walked down the runway. Amazing, absolutely amazing!
