In 1992, he launched Change Daily!, to fill the
void in department stores for youthful underwear and loungewear.
The collection consists of signature novelty print boxers (such
as glow-in-the-dark, pocket flashers), related novelty T-shirts,
lounge pants, pyjamas and lounge separates for women and children.
For many years, because they were witty and often unexpectedly funny,
I collected the print ads for Change Daily! from GQ and other
men’s magazines. As evidenced by his ads for K-mart over the Christmas
selling season, he has not lost his touch one bit.
For his fall 2003 show, Nick Graham, disguised
as ‘Tooloose’ Lautrec, asked, ‘Will you be mine?’ and the answer
was a resounding ‘Yes.’ With a soundtrack of romantic songs from
throughout the years playing in the background, appropriately
for Valentines Day, the models mugged and vamped their way
down the runway in customary humorous fashion.
‘La Vie en Rose’ gave us Cinthia, Isis and Patricia
(the French Vanities) in pink and black chiffon panty sets and carrying
cut-outs of perfume bottles and lipstick cases. ‘Love Shows’ opened
with Dylan as a comical Love Boat captain in Change Daily!
sailor boxers, followed by newlywed couple Damon and Carlotta in
a tuxedo front boxer and Joe Boxer socks and white Joe Boxer bra
and panty respectively. The iconic Love, American
Style theme song brought out Christian, Selita and Viola in
red, white and blue boxers, camisoles, tap pants, bras and socks.
This was all the more enjoyable because they were halfway down the
runway hidden under Joe Boxer bedding before exploding into view
at the end of the runway from under the blankets.
