Editor-in-chief Simone Knol attends Karen Walker’s London show and deciphers what it takes to be a modern runaway

HE title of Karen Walker's spring–summer ’03 collection was Runaway.
   On receiving the invitation with a lino print of a yeti-type creature holding the figure of a prone bikini clad woman, we wondered what exactly that might mean. Escaping to far-flung lands? Adventurous holidays? Retreating from day-to-day life and living in the country? But no. It was as simple as the title suggested. These models were not-so-little-girl-lost, hitting the road looking for excitement.
   With poker-straight hair and kohl-rimmed eyes, they strutted along in high black patent stilettoes or gym-style trainer boots in a floral camo print.
