Like a new version of the Queen of Narnia in the childrens
book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, long, flowing scarves
and light little skullcaps were mixed with fine, lace-like jumpers and
skirts, as well as more solid separates of trousers and furry jackets.
This juxtaposes our idea of dressing for warmth in a
cool climate with the light, lacy prettiness of innerwear. Together they
combined to cocoon the wearer in soft woollen gauze and tulle, with supple
leather and fur-stripped mohair outer layers.
As this was from La Perla, recognized primarily as makers
of underwear, many of the items shown had a touch of intimacy, such as
boned basques, chemise-like tops and dresses, corset lacing and ties.
Mixed with the other more heavy-duty wear it made a distinctive picture
for a modern take on winter dressing.
